The Home of the Stillwater Rowing Club

Rowing is one of the hottest workouts around and for good reason: it works! Rowing is one of the best full body workouts because it’s easy to learn, easy on your joints, and just plain fun. We’re especially pumped to feature water rowing because it offers a very natural “on-the-water” feeling.  You’ll burn calories while building muscle. Try rowing at Uncommon Age and you’ll understand why so many leading fitness experts recommend this classic workout.

A NOTE ON FOOTWEAR FOR ROWING:
While we normally don’t wear shoes in the studio, you’ll want a pair of indoor shoes for rowing to prevent chafing.

Builds Healthy Body Composition

Stress Busting Workout

The consistent and rhythmic activity associated with rowing has an unparalleled impact on reducing stress.  And unlike other indoor rowing, water rowing makes you feel like you’re on the water with a natural-feeling pull and release.

Builds Cardio-Respiratory Endurance

Rowing improves your lungs’ ability to provide oxygen to the blood, heart and the rest of your body.   All you need is a 30 minute steady state pace or 10 minutes of high intensity intervals.

Low Impact with Great Results

Rowing’s unique because it’s a low-impact exercise that uses 84% your body’s muscle mass.  When done properly, the rowing stroke offers little room for the serious injury often found in high-impact workouts.

Burns Calories… Fast

Competitive rowers expend almost twice the number of calories on a 2,000-meter course as a runner in a 3,000-meter steeplechase, but your body won’t experience the same wear and tear. Plus, unlike running, you build strength in your upper body and core.

Muscle Building

Rowing really works the quadriceps, the large muscles in front of your thighs. With stronger quadriceps, activities and exercises like walking, jogging, lunges and squats can be done more efficiently and with greater strength.

Improves Mobility

Rowing works many different muscles and joints without straining them, making it ideal for people with arthritis, osteoporosis or sedentary lifestyles. The wide range of movement during rowing loosens muscles and joints reducing stiffness and increasing flexibility with just a moderate pace for 20 to 30 minutes.

Strengthens Your Heart

Rowing is the perfect cardiovascular training because it’s one of the few non-weight bearing sports that exercises all the major muscle groups of the body in a regular and uninterrupted manner.
