About Marty

1.  What do you enjoy most about working at Uncommon Age?

Hands down, the people.  Both our clients and trainers are just an outstanding bunch of folks. They are down to earth, authentic, intelligent, and most of all, welcoming and accepting of us all!

2.  How would you describe the culture of Uncommon Age?

Smart and fun.  I personally like to be understand why I’m doing something, and why I should invest my time, effort and money in anything.  I hope to address that in what we do at UA. Things need to make sense to me but at the same time, I want to find joy in what I am doing.  I work off the assumption most people share that desire.

3.  I am inspired by:

Those that I can learn from, which is everyone!  Continual learning and growing is very inspiring to me.

4.  Favorite book/favorite vacation spot/favorite movie/color/junk food:

I love summer, water, and heat.  Everyone that knows me knows that.  So wherever that is, I’m good!  I also love comedic action flicks, 21 Jump Street and The Good Guys are among some of my favorites.  My sister and I always joke that whatever movie she likes, I’ll hate, and vice versa.  It’s all about decreasing threat to my nervous system, so entertainment for me needs to be fun!

5.  How would you describe yourself?

I’m pretty much an open book.  What you see is what you get!  I highly value authenticity and transparency when working with my staff and clients.

Anna Yatsko, B.S. Kinesiology

Personal Trainer

  • Pilates – DK Body Balancing Method
  • Pregnancy Pilates – DK Body Balancing Method

About Anna

Anna has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and received her training and certification for both Pilates and Pregnancy Pilates in 2015. She lives in Stillwater with her husband, one dog, and two cats.

We can safely say she is the first mermaid to teach at Uncommon Age! Her background is in synchronized swimming and was a USA National Team member, a collegiate national champion, a professional synchronized swimmer at Le Rêve-The Dream at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, and a professional mermaid at the Silverton Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.

She loves Pilates and used it as one of her cross training activities for synchronized swimming while competing and performing. She has however, had experience with other disciplines such as GYROTONIC® , rowing and kettlebells. She is excited to join the Uncommon team and apply her athletic background to the Uncommon community!

Jess Larson, RN

Online Coach – Personal Trainer

Pilates – Z Health®

  • RN
  • Z-Health EEP®

About Jess

Jess is a registered nurse working in an Emergency Department who is currently working on her certification in Balanced Body Pilates. She is dedicated to the idea of helping clients change the way they view their health and wellness. She has learned through her time working in healthcare that there needs to be an emphasis on proactive, healthy habits rather than reactive pharmacological solutions. After struggling with the misinformation in the health and fitness world, she decided to spread her love of wholesome, balanced fitness and nutrition at both Uncommon Age and through her online coaching program of The Balanced Nurse.

She began studying exercise science at college and received a year of education in sports nutrition. She ultimately decided to study nursing, but her passion for health and fitness stuck. She has since studied different modalities that change the way we view how to exercise and eat, including Precision Nutrition and Z Health along with Pilates. She has continued to pursue the idea that health and wellness is not born out of the cycle of deprivation and punishment, but instead small changes that result in the balance between a positive relationship with your body and the ability to life your life without obsession and guilt.

John Feely

Class Instructor

Tai Chi

John Feely has been studying and teaching various forms of Eastern martial arts for the past 25 years. He studies classical T’ai Chi Ch’uan with nationally recognized Sifu Ray Hayward and advanced martial arts with World Grand Master Wai Lun Choi. John is a formal disciple of Sifu Ray Hayward within the direct classical lineage to the Yang family, which is the T’ai Chi Ch’uan style that is most widely practiced in the world today.  Currently, in addition to T’ai Chi Ch’uan, John is studying Luk Hop Bat Fat, 5 Elements of Hsing-Yi, and Pa-Kua, which are advanced internal eastern martial art styles.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan is an ancient Chinese mind-body practice to improve health of mind and body through relaxation and body movement. This class is based on traditional teachings passed down from teacher to student through an established lineage. Each class begins with warmups and Qigong energy moving exercises.

In addition to T’ai Chi, other internal eastern martial arts modalities will be explored. In his teaching John emphasizes the importance of relaxation, proper body posture, breathing, and accurate body mechanics in order to receive the maximum health benefits of T’ai Chi Ch’uan.
